The Heartbeat of Climate Action: Families, Love, Hope, and Our Kids’ Climate

After more than a month, I’m finally sitting down to write this newsletter and what feels most meaningful to share today is my journey with Our Kids’ Climate (OKC).

I joined OKC in July last year, and since then I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible parents who are taking action on climate. Every time I meet one of them, I get goosebumps. Despite their busy lives—managing households, caring for children, balancing demanding jobs; they still find time to advocate for a healthy, safe, and sustainable planet for all children. Their commitment is extraordinary. Their courage is contagious. And every single interaction leaves me deeply inspired.

As the Community and Fellowship Manager, I spend my days connecting with parent leaders across countries, cultures, and contexts. But the truth is, many days I forget that this is “work.” I often feel like I’m simply a fan of these climate-parent groups who are doing powerful, community-rooted advocacy in 55 countries.

Before joining OKC, my life was rooted in interfaith peacebuilding. Since 2009, I have worked with various organisations to strengthen youth leadership, especially among young women from marginalised communities. That work shaped my belief that real change grows from the ground up; from people who care deeply and act collectively.

Today, with OKC, I feel that same energy. I see parents who bring love, urgency, and hope into climate action, and it motivates me every single day. Their stories remind me that climate action is not just policy or science; it is care, courage, and community.

This year brought a moment of immense pride for all of us: Our Kids’ Climate received the 2025 European Lung Foundation (ELF) Award for its outstanding contribution to safeguarding children’s respiratory health worldwide. It was a recognition of the heart-led work our global community has been doing for years.

We also launched a short film, Every Breath Tells A Story, to show how air pollution impacts children’s everyday lives. You can watch it here: Every Breath Tells A Story

And as the world watches the momentum building around COP30, we were deeply inspired by our amazing mothers’ delegation from Brazil. They spoke at multiple events, shared powerful testimonies, and hosted a dedicated panel at the Health Pavilion. Their voices carried the realities of frontline families and the hopes of future generations.

At OKC, we also hold space for each other through our monthly community gathering on every last Tuesday. It is a circle of parents, caregivers, aunties, uncles, and intergenerational champions from across the world. We share our stories, our laughter, our anxieties, and our hopes. Every month, we remind ourselves of a simple but powerful truth:

We are not alone.

We are with our Mother Earth.

We are with our children and future generations.

And together, we are advocating for clean air, safe communities, and healthy lives.

I write this with so much love, as a proud aunt to my nieces and nephews, and as someone who believes deeply in the power of care-driven climate action. Working with Our Kids’ Climate continues to be one of the most inspiring parts of my journey, and I’m grateful to share a piece of that inspiration with you today.

Our work is not easy, but it is shared. And in that shared journey, I find endless strength. Thank you for being part of it.
